The blaze left more than 10 people injured with asphyxiation and smoke inhalation and some livestock dead, including cows, pigs and goats raised in the vicinity.

More than 15 fire engines and ambulances were dispatched to the scene.

It is unclear how the fire started, but the firefighters took over five hours to put it off as the site was engulfed in flames reportedly fueled by wood and garbage as well as strong winds.

The affected site was cordoned off to prevent the fire from spreading to adjacent areas.

The prosecution assigned the Forensic Laboratory to inspect the scene to determine the cause of the blaze.

It also requested an expedited investigation by the police to uncover the circumstances of the incident and to ascertain whether there was any criminal suspicion involved.

Zarayeb district, located in Baragil, Osim Centre in Giza, is one of the main garbage dump communities in Greater Cairo.
