The blast was caused by a sudden rupture in the gas pipeline, triggered by heavy machinery striking it during excavation.
The Public Prosecution referred the defendants to the competent court on charges of involuntary manslaughter due to negligence, which led to the deaths of eight people, injuries to 16 others, the burning of 11 vehicles, and violations of the Natural Gas Law during development work in the area.
After the explosion, the prosecution launched an investigation. It inspected the site, questioned the injured at hospitals, and commissioned technical committees from relevant authorities to review the project’s procedures.
Based on technical reports and pumping records, the prosecution confirmed that the explosion resulted directly from negligence and ruled out any prior gas leak.
The investigation found unpermitted excavation, lack of safety measures and technical supervision, use of heavy machinery without prior inspection, and failure to notify the gas company.
The Public Prosecution affirmed its commitment to holding accountable anyone whose negligence endangers citizens' lives, stressing its ongoing dedication to delivering justice and imposing strict penalties on those responsible for such incidents.
