In a statement, the ministry said security services examined a video widely-circulating on social media showing a private car with foreign flag sticker “Israeli flag” crashing into pedestrians and vehicles in the Kerdasa area in Giza.
Investigations found that on Thursday 26 February, Kerdasa Police Station received a report from residents of multiple vehicle collisions resulting in injuries within its jurisdiction.
The driver, a resident of the same district, had reportedly been involved in a verbal altercation with a shop owner who objected to him parking in front of his store.
As passersby witnessed the dispute and noticed the Israeli flag affixed to the car, triggering some citizens to assault the driver.
While attempting to flee the scene, he struck a number of pedestrians and vehicles that happened to be passing through the area.
The incident left six people injured with fractures and bruises. They were transferred to nearby hospitals to receive necessary medical treatment.
Security forces seized the vehicle and arrested the driver.
The driver's family told the authorities that he has been suffering from a psychological disorder for several years and has been undergoing psychiatric treatment.
The family provided medical documents supporting this claim, according to police investigators.
Further inquiries revealed that the driver had visited a car accessories shop in the same area and asked the shop owner’s daughter to print the sticker of the Israeli flag in question.
The woman reportedly printed two copies of the flag for him out of fear because, she claimed, he was known in the neighbourhood for psychological instability.
The Public Prosecution has launched an investigation into the incident.
