The case dates back to October but only came to light after a reported dispute between the school’s partners led to the video being shared on social media, triggering public outrage and prompting swift action by the ministry and security authorities.
The Interior Ministry said it had identified the suspect and arrested him in Sohag governorate, adding that legal measures have been taken and the case has been referred to the Public Prosecution.
The video, which shows inappropriate conduct by a school staff member in an administrative office at the school in the Bashtil area of Giza, raised concerns about student safety, particularly in private schools.
Parents called for an urgent investigation and accountability, amid growing concerns about oversight and child protection standards in schools.
Sources at the Giza education directorate told local media the man seen in the video is not the school principal, as initially reported, but one of its partners, adding that investigations are ongoing to determine the full circumstances.
In response, the Ministry of Education placed the school under full financial and administrative supervision and appointed a specialized committee to manage it temporarily until the investigation is completed.
The case triggered widespread anger across Egyptian social media, where users shared the video, demanded swift accountability, expressed outrage over the alleged assault, and called for justice for the child and stricter oversight of private schools.
Parents and commentators also criticized what they saw as delays in addressing the incident, noting that it had occurred several months earlier, before becoming public.
Others urged authorities to tighten monitoring mechanisms inside schools, particularly in administrative areas, and to enforce stricter background checks and regulatory controls to prevent similar incidents.
The Happy Land case comes amid a series of high-profile abuse cases in schools that have previously triggered nationwide concern and official intervention.
In one of the most prominent cases, sexual assault at Cairo’s Seeds International School, reportedly involving multiple staff members and several kindergarten children, sparked widespread alarm and led to arrests, extensive investigations, and prosecution.
In March, an Egyptian court sentenced four defendants to death by hanging after convicting them of sexually assaulting at least five children at the school, while acquitting two others.
The case, which began in November 2025, highlighted systemic gaps in child protection and prompted renewed calls for stricter oversight and stronger safeguards in schools.
