Egypt sends medical aid to Sudan's flood-stricken Red Sea state

Egypt sent on Monday a shipment of medical and pharmaceutical aid to the Egyptian section of the dialysis centre in Port Sudan, the capital city of the Sudanese Red Sea state, to assist against the floods that have been ravaging the state recently.

The shipment, which was provided by The Egyptian Agency of Partnership for Development — an affiliate of the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs — included tents, blankets, food, disinfectants, medicine, and other medical supplies, a statement by the ministry read.

This year’s devastating Nile floods have so far caused the deaths of dozens of Sudanese citizens.

According to Relief Web on Monday, the heavy rains and flash floods in the country have affected 300,000 people and destroyed 15,000 homes.

Abdullah Shangarai, the Red Sea state governor, and Egypt’s General Consul in Port Sudan Sameh Farouk Shehata received the shipment at Port Sudan International Airport.

Governor Shangarai extended his greetings to the Egyptian government, affirming that the aid reflects the firm bilateral relations gathering the two countries on the official and popular levels.

Throughout September, Egypt sent a total of seven military planes carrying tons of humanitarian aid to Sudan to assist the sisterly country “in the face of all difficulties and crises.”
