El-Sisi, who met Tshisekedi on the sidelines of the UN climate conference (COP26) in Glasgow, praised the efforts exerted by the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), the current chair of the African Union, to raise the issues of African countries at international forums and to settle the GERD crisis.

The DRC has been trying in the past few months to revive the GERD talks between Egypt, Ethiopia and Sudan following the failure to reach an agreement last April.

Both presidents expressed their satisfaction with the distinguished relations between the two countries at the level of economic cooperation and political coordination, according to the Egyptian presidency.

Tshisekedi thanked El-Sisi for the support provided by Egypt to the DRC, which acts as a model for cooperation and coordination among African countries.

President El-Sisi continued his meetings with other world leaders on the sidelines of the COP26, including British PM Boris Johnson and Romanian President Klaus Iohannis, who visited Egypt last week.
