Lebanese PM during an interview with MENA
Lebanon will never forget that despite all challenges, Egypt was the first to dispatch foodstuff and aid planes following the massive explosion in Beirut last year and the coronavirus crisis, Mikati said in an interview published on Friday with Egyptian state News Agency (MENA).
He also said Cairo was keen to supply Beirut with natural gas to help ease the worsening power crisis.
"I say it frankly, Egypt was keenest for Lebanon to obtain gas," he stressed.
As part of a previously agreed upon roadmap to ease Lebanon's crippling crisis, Egypt will export gas to Lebanon soon through Syria and Jordan.
The Lebanese businessman premier pointed out that the World Bank has agreed to grant his country a $250 million loan for next year's expenses, which will cover gas piped from Egypt and electricity imported from Jordan.
PM Mikati said the gas imports are expected to be delayed for six weeks due to needed repairs to the pipeline that connects the Syrian-Lebanese borders.
He also praised the development projects carried out in Egypt under the leadership of the Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi.
"The projects have made real progress over just a few years," he noted, adding that he is planning to visit Egypt soon.
