Shoukry made his remarks during a meeting held in the capital Cairo with Hussein Ibrahim Taha, the OIC's new secretary-general, where he stressed Egypt's support for the organisation’s efforts to improve its work in a way that serves the interests of member states.
Egypt is keen to "efficiently" participate in all the activities of the OIC so it can achieve its objectives and face the challenges in the Islamic world, Shoukry told the OIC's new secretary-general.
Egypt is currently hosting the permanent headquarters of the Women's Development Organisation, an OIC body established in 2009 to advance women’s roles in all OIC member states.
Egypt also contributed to the issuing of the Cairo Declaration of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation for Human Rights in July.
Earlier today, Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi proposed launching a fund worth “billions of dollars” to support education in OIC countries.
Addressing the second edition of the Global Forum for Higher Education and Scientific Research, El-Sisi also vowed to provide free education opportunities for talents from OIC countries in Egyptian universities.
During his meeting with Shoukry, Secretary-General Taha expressed his appreciation for the "influential" role Egypt plays in resolving all crises the region.
