The mechanism furthers the "well-established" Egyptian-Gulf relations, which are "deeply-rooted" at various levels, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ahmed Hafez said in a statement early on Sunday.
He added that the step reflects the interest of both sides to hold continued consultation and coordination, especially towards the common challenges facing the Arab region that necessitate a unified response.
The statement added that the security and stability of the Gulf are an integral part of Egyptian national security.
