Espinosa congratulated Shoukry on assuming the presidency of the conference, adding that she is looking forward to working with Shoukry to ensure COP27’s success and to achieve positive results internationally, according to the Egyptian foreign ministry.

Minister Shoukry stressed the importance Egypt and its leadership attaches to hosting the COP7 and working on international climate action.

The Egyptian FM said Egypt intends to build on what was achieved during COP26 in Glasgow and to use the current rising international momentum to confront climate change, moving from the stage of making pledges to actual action on the ground, whether in reducing emissions or financing climate-oriented projects in developing African countries.

In a meeting with international media on the sidelines of the fourth edition of the World Youth Forum, President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi said Egypt is exerting much effort with international parties to ensure reaching goals during the COP27, which will be held in the Egyptian Red Sea resort of Sharm El-Sheikh in November.
