Egypt, Pakistan discuss means of bolstering bilateral ties

Egypt and Pakistan on Thursday discussed means of strengthening bilateral relations, a statement by the Pakistani foreign ministry said following a meeting between Egypt’s Ambassador to Pakistan Tarek Dahroug and Pakistani Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi.

During the meeting in Pakistan's capital Islamabad, Qureshi expressed satisfaction over the growing cooperation between Pakistan and Egypt, emphasising the importance of enhanced interactions at the leadership level, people-to-people exchange, according to the statement.

Dahroug voiced his appreciation of the support provided for the Egyptian embassy in Islamabad, it added.

Last year, Qureshi invited Egyptian businessmen to invest in his country, highlighting the business-friendly incentives offered by the Pakistani government.

The top Pakistani diplomat highlighted what he called the "promising" investment opportunities in Pakistan in energy, housing, and health.

In an interview with Ahram Online in February 2021, Qureshi affirmed his country's aspiration to establish collaborative mechanisms to promote trade and economic cooperation with Egypt.

He described Cairo as a pivot for Pakistan’s “Engage Africa” policy.

Last year, Pakistani Ambassador to Cairo Sajid Bilal also lauded the efforts made by Egyptian start-ups investing in Pakistan, voicing his country’s full support for further Egyptian investment in the Asian country.
