In a press statement on Tuesday, Egyptian foreign ministry spokesperson Ahmed Hafiz said that Egypt hopes the UN Security Council resolution will contribute to stopping the Houthi attacks and facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid to civilians in Yemen.

Hafiz added that the resolution helps push the political solution forward in the Yemeni crisis and supports the efforts of the UN special envoy to Yemen.

The UN Security Council voted on Monday to impose an expanded arms embargo on Yemen's Houthi rebels, saying they have threatened the peace, security and stability of the war-torn country.

The Security Council had already imposed an asset freeze, travel ban and arms embargo against Houthi leaders and top officials, but this resolution dramatically expands the arms embargo to include all Houthis.
