Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi discussed in a telephone call on Wednesday the latest developments in the Ukrainian-Russian talks with Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky, the Egyptian presidency announced.

Egypt s President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi (R) and Ukrainian president counterpart Volodymyr Zelenskyy had a phone call on Thursday 24 March 2022

El-Sisi reiterated in the telephone call he received from Zelensky the need to prioritise dialogue and diplomatic solutions to settle the crisis, stressing Egypt's support for all efforts to reach a peaceful solution either at the bilateral, regional or international level.

This is the second call El-Sisi received from Zelensky, and the first was eight days ago.

In early March, Egypt was among the 141 countries that voted for a UN resolution at the General Assembly calling for a halt to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and an immediate withdrawal of Russian forces from its western neighbour.

Egypt also called at the General Assembly for a quick political solution to the Russia-Ukraine crisis through peaceful means, warning of the impact of the crisis on the fragile global economy.

In early March, President El-Sisi voiced in a phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin Egypt's readiness to support the diplomatic endeavours that would facilitate reaching a political settlement between Russia and Ukraine to end the conflict and preserve international security and stability.

Cairo and Kyiv enjoy distinguished economic relations, with Egypt receiving 30 percent of its imported wheat from Ukraine before the outbreak of the Russian-Ukrainian war.
