Sisi probes cooperation with Germany shipbuilding giant Lürssen

President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi met here on Sunday Peter Lürssen, owner and board chairman of German boatbuilder Lürssen, to discuss cooperation in the maritime industry.

During the meeting, El-Sisi stressed the importance Egypt attaches to promoting cooperation with the German company, a highly reputed global shipbuilding mogul with broad experience in this industry, according to a statement by Presidential Spokesman Bassam Rady.

The meeting was attended by Khaled Galal, the Egyptian ambassador in Berlin, and Lieutenant General Ahmed Khaled, the head of Strategic Command and supervisor of military manufacturing.

Meanwhile, Lürssen expressed pride in the company's joint cooperation history with Egypt, highlighting the promising Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) opportunities in Egypt, especially in light of the comprehensive development the country has been witnessing in all infrastructure sectors.

The two sides reviewed joint cooperation frameworks related to shipyard development, technical training programs, and enhancing Egyptian cadres' abilities in these areas.

President El-Sisi started a two day official visit in Berlin on Sunday as Egypt and Germany co-chair the 13th  Petersburg Climate which Germany is holding annualy ahead of UN Climate Change Conference (COP27) that Egypt will host in the Red Sea city of Sharm El-Shiekh this November.

In 2021, Lürssen met during his visit to Cairo with President El-Sisi to follow upon the implementation of plans to develop and upgrade the maritime industry in Egypt.
