The Egyptian consulate in Riyadh is following up the case round-the-clock and is making the necessary contacts in this regard, a statement by the ministry said.

The minsitry added that they had visited Ayman Abdel-Sallam Rezq in the hospital where he is receiving treatment to check up on his health.

General Consul Tareq El-Meligey explained that the consulate is following up the developments with officials at the Saudi ministries of foreign and internal affairs as well as from the Al-Quseim district, asserting that they are doing their best in handling the case.

The foreign ministry also wished the Egyptian doctor a quick recovery.

The Gulf kingdom is home to the largest number of Egyptian expatriates in the world – around three million people – which makes up one third of Egyptians living abroad, according to the Egypt’s official statistics agency.
