FM Shoukry appoints career diplomat Ahmed Abu-Zeid as foreign ministry spokesman

Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry issued a decree Monday appointing Ambassador Ahmed Abu-Zeid as the new spokesman for the ministry succeeding Ahmed Hafez, who was recently named Egypt’s ambassador to Canada.

Ambassador Abu-Zeid, a career diplomat, served as Egypt’s ambassador to Canada from 2018 to 2022.

He had previously served as the official spokesman for the foreign ministry from 2015 to 2018. 

In his years of diplomatic service, Abu-Zeid served as counselor at the Egyptian embassy in Washington DC and at the Egyptian consulate in San Francisco. He was also a member of Egypt’s permanent delegation to the United Nations (UN), in New York.

Abu-Zeid also worked for 10 years in the office of the Minister of Foreign Affairs.
