Egypt s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry meets with the European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs Josep Borrell in New York
In a meeting on the sidelines of the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, Shoukry and Borrell discussed how the EU can support Egypt in mitigating the negative impacts of the food crisis.
The top officials also reviewed Egypt’s capabilities to achieve a strategic partnership with the EU in the field of energy, especially with its status as a regional hub for the circulation, production and distribution of energy, whether liquefied gas, green hydrogen or electrical interconnection.
The Egyptian FM also stressed the importance of moving forward with the implementation of the projects that were agreed upon within the EU-Egypt Partnership priorities agreement that was declared in June 2022, as well as to continue the dialogue between Egypt and the EU to overcome obstacles hindering the increase of trade exchange between the two sides.
The foreign minister also highlighted Egypt's efforts to increase its exports to European markets by benefiting from the European strategic transformation process.
Egypt is willing to enhance cooperation with the European Union in a way that reflects the depth of the long-standing economic partnership between the two sides, Shoukry noted.
The Egyptian foreign minister and the Top EU official also discussed the latest developments in Ukraine and Libya.
Shoukry, the president-designate of COP27, also discussed the latest preparations for the conference, which will be held in November in Sharm El-Sheikh.
