In statements to TV show ‘Al-Hayat Al-Youm’ on Al-Hayat TV channel, Abu El-Zeid revealed that 2,000 Egypt have been evacuated from Ukraine since the start of the military conflict in February and that 500 have decided to remain there willingly.
The spokesperson added that there is also a number of Egyptian students at various Russian border cities, and that the Egyptian embassy in Russia has been in contact with them and they are being transferred to other cities.
The Egyptian foreign ministry issued a statement on Tuesday urging Egyptians currently in Ukraine to leave the war-torn country.
With the beginning of the Russian invasion on 24 February, Egypt launched an airlift to evacuate Egyptians from Ukraine via neighbouring countries.
Around 6,000 Egyptians were residing in Ukraine before the war broke out, most of whom were students, according to officials.
