In a recorded speech, El-Sisi highlighted the strategic partnership between Egypt and the AUF and the MoUs signed between the two sides in this regard.
He noted that the partnership and MoUs signed between the two sides reflect a sincere will to expand the range of university cooperation projects implemented by the AUF in Egypt in cooperation with the Egyptian universities that are AUF members.
El-Sisi said he hopes this cooperation will take into consideration the “pace of the age,” the prerequisites of the development paths and job market requirements.
This cooperation should aim to help Egyptian universities achieve tangible progress in their efficiency by improving the quality of education, scientific research and innovation in these universities, the president said.
Such cooperation should also enhance “Egypt’s vision to launch a renewed and open knowledge awakening that is based in the first place on a modern educational policy accessible to all,” El-Sisi said.
This knowledge awakening should help raise open-minded and enlightened generations that understand the value of respecting others and that are open to diverse cultures.
Also, these generations should enjoy the spirit of initiative and the ability to unleash talents across various aspects of creativity and innovation, El-Sisi stated.
“This opens wide horizons for the advancement of the educational foundation of undergraduates and graduates, and their scientific and cultural awareness, and thus enable our youth to interact with new views and enlightened thinking, far from the narrow-minded, extremist tendencies and deviant movements,” he stated.
El-Sisi said Egypt’s hosting of the sixth Francophone meeting between higher education and scientific research ministers comes while Egypt prepares for the 2022 UN Climate Change Conference (COP27) in the green city of Sharm El-Sheikh next November.
“Egypt is exerting its utmost effort, along with world leaders in order for the summit to result in the implementation of international pledges to combat climate change,” El-Sisi stated.
The world is only 10 days away from COP27 that will take place between 6 and 18 November in the presence of world leaders, NGOs, the private sector, and other stakeholders.
The Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Ayman Ashour partook in the meeting today.
Cairo is hosting the second edition of the AUF's Scientific Francophonie Week and the sixth Francophone ministerial meeting between 25-28 October in Cairo under the auspices of El-Sisi.
Founded in 1961 in Canada, the AUF is one of the largest educational associations worldwide that brings together hundreds of higher education and research institutions in 119 countries, including 19 universities in Egypt.
New Senghor University headquarters
El-Sisi said that he issued instructions for the building of a larger headquarters for Senghor University, the private French-speaking International University for African Development which Egypt hosts in Alexandria, to accommodate the growing numbers of African students in the university.
“Egypt is proud to host Senghor University in Alexandria as a model for outstanding university education that produces highly-qualified and trained African cadres capable of efficiently managing sustainable development strategies in their countries,” the president stated.
Senghor University was founded in 1990 in the northern Egyptian governorate and is part of the AUF.
