Egypt keen to promote strategic partnership with US: Sisi

President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi asserted on Friday Egypt’s keenness to promote future strategic partnership with the United States in all fields in a meeting in Washington with National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan, the Egyptian presidency said.

According to the White House readout of the meeting, Sullivan expressed the US’ strong support for Egypt’s home-grown, IMF-backed economic reform agenda.

He affirmed the US’ support for Egypt’s water security, as well as for a swift diplomatic resolution of the dispute concerning the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) that would safeguard the interests of all parties, the readout said.

Sullivan lauded Egypt’s role, under El-Sisi’s leadership, in supporting security and stability in the region asserting the US’s keenness to boost the bilateral strategic partnership, especially military and security cooperation, Egyptian Presidential Spokesman Bassam Rady said.

El-Sisi praised the strategic partnership between Egypt and the US, saying that Egypt is looking forward to developing cooperation on all fronts in the future.

The president asserted the importance of promoting coordination and consultation between both sides on regional issues of mutual interest to handle the unprecedented challenges facing the Middle East.

The two also discussed the US-Egypt defence relationship, global and regional security and economic challenges, and human rights

El-Sisi returned home on Saturday after participating in the 2022 US-Africa Leaders’ Summit in Washington.

The summit was hosted by US President Joe Biden from 13-15 December. Approximately 49 African leaders partook in the event that aimed to underscore the importance of US-Africa relations and increased cooperation on shared global priorities.
