Sisi, Zelensky discuss food security, development in Ukraine over phone

Egypt’s President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi discussed on Thursday the food security issue, especially in Africa, as well as the latest developments in Ukraine with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, the Egyptian presidency announced.

The Egyptian President discussed in the telephone call he received from his Ukrainian counterpart the food security issue in light of the great suffering of many people around the world due to the current crisis, especially in Africa.

He also stressed the extreme importance of stabilising the world food market, according to the Egyptian presidency.

The Ukrainian president agreed with El-Sisi, sharing his country’s efforts in ensuring global food security.   

Both El-Sisi and Zelensky discussed the importance of continuing the grain export initiative, according to the presidency.

In a tweet on his official Twitter account, Volodymyr Zelensky stated that he talked with president El-Sisi about enhancing food security and cooperating in opening Ukrainian food hubs in Africa.

According to the Egyptian Presidency, El-Sisi also discussed with Zelensky the latest developments on the ground and the humanitarian situation in Ukraine.

The Egyptian president asserted Egypt’s support of all efforts aiming to calm the situation and to advance efforts to reach a peaceful solution to the conflict in a way that prevents bloodshed and paves the way towards peace.

El-Sisi noted that Egypt was ready to continue making the necessary efforts in this regard, according to the Egyptian presidency.

The Ukrainian president, for his part, expressed appreciation of Egypt’s efforts, highlighting Egypt's influential role at the regional and international levels.
