In a meeting in Cairo with the UN special envoy to Syria Geir Pedersen, the Egyptian foreign ministry stated that Shoukry reviewed with Pedersen Egypt’s support of Syria in the face of the devastating earthquake that hit Northern Syria and Southern Turkey killing thousands.
Egypt has already sent several shipments of relief aid to both Syria and Turkey.
In late February, Sameh Shoukry paid a visit to Damascus – the first for an Egyptian FM to the country since 2011 – to convey a message of a solidarity.
During the talks, the Egyptian foreign minister stated that all parties should help Syria in the aftermath of the earthquake.
For his part, Pedersen shared Shoukry’s vision on the importance of moving forward towards a political solution to the Syrian crisis.
The Egyptian foreign minister expressed Egypt’s full endorsement of the envoy’s efforts in this regard.
Both officials agreed to continue consultations on ways to facilitate reaching a political solution in Syria.
