“The agreements aim to enhance Egyptian-Cambodian cooperation in the fields of antiquities, museums and heritage,” said Spokesperson for the Foreign Ministry Ahmed Abu Zeid.

“Shoukry welcomed his guest, expressing appreciation for his eagerness to visit Egypt to discuss means of boosting bilateral relations,” Abu Zeid added.

He also praised Cambodia’s selection of Egypt to house its only embassy in Africa.

"Egypt was among the first African nations to establish diplomatic relations with Cambodia in 1953,” Shoukry noted.

He also voiced his aspirations to bolster cooperation with the Asian country and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), of which Cambodia is a member.

Shouky told Sokhonn that Egypt is prepared to support Cambodia in strengthening trade exchanges with the African continent, shedding light on the modernisation of the country's ports, sea and land shipping routes and opportunities in the Suez Canal Economic Zone.

The Cambodian minister affirmed that the country aspires to increase cooperation with Egypt in the areas of culture, education and tourism.

“Sokhonn also praised the scholarships provided by Egypt's Al-Azhar—the world’s largest Sunni institution—to Cambodian students in light of Egypt and Al-Azhar’s moderate approaches to Islam,” Abu Zeid added.
