The fellowship will be held in June 2023 under the patronage of President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi, under the slogan "Youth of Non-Aligned and South-South Cooperation."

The fellowship will transfer the Egyptian experience in institution-building to young leaders from Asia, Africa and Latin America, the ministry said in a statement.

Last year’s edition sought to enhance the role of youth in reviving the principles of non-alignment and activating cooperation between the global South, in light of the widening civilisational and development gap between the countries of the North and South.

The fellowship has received international praise for promoting sustainability through investments in youth, based on Egypt’s Development Agenda 2030.

The Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) is a forum comprised of 120 world states that are not aligned with or against any major power bloc.

In April 1955, representatives from 29 governments of Asian and African nations gathered in Bandung, Indonesia, to discuss peace and the role of the Third World in the Cold War, economic development and decolonisation.

The core principles of the Bandung Conference were political self-determination, mutual respect for sovereignty, non-aggression, non-interference in internal affairs and equality.

Drawing on the principles agreed at the Bandung Conference in 1955, the NAM was established in 1961 in Belgrade, Yugoslavia, through an initiative by then Indian Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, Yugoslav President Josip Broz Tito, and Egyptian President Gamal Abdel-Nasser, among others.
