Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi agreed with UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan on the need to continue joint efforts between the two countries to strengthen cooperation and solidarity among Arab nations to face growing challenges on all levels.
This came during a meeting between the two leaders to discuss bilateral relations between the two countries in Cairo on Wednesday.
Earlier today, El-Sisi received Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed at Cairo International Airport at the start of an official visit to Egypt.
During their meeting, the two leaders discussed ways of developing Egyptian-Emirati cooperation frameworks and mechanisms in all fields, according to a statement released by Presidential Spokesman Ahmed Fahmy.
The two leaders also discussed developments in various regional issues, Fahmy added.
They reaffirmed that Egyptian-Emirati cooperation and coordination are key to establishing regional security, stability and development, said Fahmy.
El-Sisi and Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed also discussed various international issues, reaching a mutual understanding on means to address them, added the presidential spokesman.
During the meeting, President El-Sisi expressed Egypt’s appreciation for the relations with the UAE and the historical ties binding the two countries.
For his part, Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed stressed the UAE’s keenness to enhance distinguished brotherly relations with Egypt.
Egypt and UAE enjoy a close political relationship, with the two countries maintaining regular consultations on key regional and international issues.
The two countries also share strong cultural and economic ties.
Hundreds of thousands of Egyptians live and work in the UAE, sending billions of dollars in remittances back home over the years.
Meanwhile, the UAE is one of the largest Arab Gulf countries in investments in Egypt, with over 1,250 Emirati companies operating in all fields in the country.
Last year, the two countries celebrated 50 years of bilateral relations under the slogan “Egypt and the UAE: One Heart.”
"Egypt-UAE ties are not confined to brotherhood and real friendship only, but also to the true, deep as well as accurate understanding of conditions in the region and the world," President El-Sisi said in a recorded speech during the golden jubilee ceremony.
Also last year, Egypt and the UAE, along with Bahrain and Jordan, founded a massive industrial partnership mechanism that aims to boost sustainable growth and explore opportunities for joint investments in all four countries.
Egypt, as the host of the COP27 in Sharm El-Sheikh in November 2022, is currently cooperating with the UAE to ensure the success of COP28, which will be hosted by the UAE in Dubai from 30 November until 12 December of this year.
