Egyptian embassy in Khartoum urges expats to avoid unnecessary movements till situation stabilises

The Egyptian embassy in Khartoum has urged expatriates in Sudan to exercise maximum caution by staying away from the areas of ongoing fighting and refrain from unnecessary movements until the situation stabilises.

In a statement on Saturday, the embassy said that it is in communication with Egyptian citizens and students who are residing in Sudan to provide them with all necessary support.

On Saturday morning, intense fighting broke out between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in the Sudanese capital.

Earlier today, the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement that it is following up on the status of Egyptian citizens residing in all parts Sudan amid the tense situation in the country.

The foreign ministry called on all Egyptians in Sudan to appraise the Egyptian Embassy in Khartoum of any dangers that they face in order to receive the necessary support.

Also in the statement, the foreign ministry called on all Sudanese parties to exercise maximum restraint  in order to "protect the lives and capabilities of the brotherly Sudanese people, and uphold the supreme interests of their homeland."

In the afternoon hours today, EgyptAir announced a 72-hour suspension of its flights to and from Khartoum International Airport citing the deteriorating security situation in Sudan.
