Egyptian and Indian Foreign Ministers agree to coordinate to protect Indian nationals in Sudan

Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry agreed in a phone call on Thursday with Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar to India's request that Egypt contribute to the protection of Indian nationals in Sudan amidst the ongoing fighting there, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesman, Ahmed Abu-Zeid, said that during the call, Shoukry reviewed Egypt's efforts to mediate between the conflicting parties. He also informed Jaishankar of Egypt's diplomatic efforts to contact various regional and international parties to resolve the conflict in Sudan peacefully. 

Shoukry emphasised the need to integrate efforts and urged the parties to the conflict in Sudan to achieve a sustainable ceasefire to protect the lives and properties of the Sudanese people, said the spokesman.

For his part, the Indian Minister praised Egypt's mediation efforts to stop the fighting in Sudan. Furthermore, he expressed his country's concern about the consequences of the ongoing military confrontations and their impact on civilians, including Sudanese citizens and foreign nationals.

Jaishankar also expressed India's desire that Egypt coordinates with India and contribute to protecting Indian nationals in Sudan, a suggestion that Shoukry welcomed.
