Egypt deploys security forces to Sudan border to secure evacuation of nationals, sources tell Al-Arabiya

Egypt has deployed security forces on its borders with Sudan to secure the safe evacuation of Egyptian nationals from Sudan, according to sources that spoke to Al-Arabiya TV Station on Sunday.

The sources added to Al-Arabiya that the Egyptian and Sudanese armed forces are coordinating to begin these evacuation operations, adding that Sudan has provided Egypt with the details of the safe corridors that will take Egyptian nationals to designatedevacuation sites in Sudan.

The sources explained that the Sudanese army will be accompanying convoys of Egyptians who will be evacuated from Sudan to the border crossings between the two countries.

On Saturday, the Egyptian Ministry of foreign Affairs said that it is coordinating with the Sudanese authorities to facilitate the evacuation of Egyptians in the capital Khartoum and other parts of the country.

At least 10,000 Egyptians, including 5,000 students, are in Sudan.

The foreign ministry urged Egyptian nationals outside Khartoum to head to the nearest point to them in preparation for evacuation by the Egyptian authorities.

On Sunday, the foreign ministry urged Egyptians in Khartoum to continue to stay at home and steer clear of areas of conflict after a member of the Egyptian embassy in Khartoum was shot by a firearm.
