The operation to evacuate Egyptian nationals by land was carried out in coordination with the Sudanese authorities, said the official spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ahmed Abu-Zeid in a statement.
The Egyptian embassy in Khartoum, the consulates in Khartoum and Port Sudan, and the consular office in Wadi Halfa continue to coordinate with Egyptian citizens in Sudan to secure their evacuation, according to Abu-Zeid.
At least 10,000 Egyptians, including 5,000 students, are currently in Sudan.
To ensure the safe evacuation of its citizens from Sudan, Egypt has deployed security forces on its borders with Sudan, as per sources that spoke earlier to Al-Arabiya TV channel on Sunday.
The sources also added that the Egyptian and Sudanese armed forces are coordinating the evacuation operations, and that Sudan has provided Egypt with details of safe corridors to transport Egyptian nationals to designated evacuation sites in Sudan.
The Sudanese army is reportedly accompanying convoys of Egyptians to the border crossings between the two countries.
The foreign ministry has urged Egyptian nationals outside Khartoum to head to either the Egyptian Consulate General in Port Sudan or to the Wadi Halfa Consulate Office in the city of Wadi Halfa in preparation for evacuation.
The ministry has also urged Egyptian nationals in Khartoum to continue to stay at home and avoid areas of conflict, especially after a member of the Egyptian embassy in Khartoum sustained injury after being shot.
