Ambassador Ahmed Abu Zeid, the spokesperson for the ministry, expressed heartfelt sympathies to the victims and their families.
The spokesperson also reiterated Egypt's solidarity with the people and government of Tunisia and commended the bravery of the Tunisian security forces in handling the situation.
According to the Tunisian interior ministry, a Tunisian police officer shot dead two people participating in an annual pilgrimage to the renowned Ghriba synagogue, as well as two members of the security services on the island of Djerba before being killed on Tuesday.
The synagogue was previously targeted in a suicide truck bombingthat killed 21 people in 2002.
