Shoukry discussed with Martin Griffiths, Deputy Secretary-General of the UN for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator (OCHA), the Sudanese crisis and its impact on the humanitarian situation in Sudan and its neighbours, especially Egypt.

Egypt currently hosts 120,000 displaced Sudanese,  according to a statement by the Egyptian Foreign Ministry on Thursday.

The foreign minister expressed Egypt's readiness to cooperate with OCHA in facilitating the transportation of humanitarian aid to Sudan, recalling the successful cooperation between the two sides in meeting humanitarian needs during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Egypt also hosted regional offices for OCHA, the World Food Programme, and the International Organization for Migration to facilitate the coordination of humanitarian efforts.

Both sides stressed the importance of international support to meet all the needs of Sudanese refugees in neighbouring countries, especially in light of the continuous influx of people from Sudan.

The two officials also discussed the Syrian crisis; they agreed on enhancing cooperation and coordination to strengthen humanitarian support in crisis areas in the Middle East.

Shoukry also met with the newly appointed Director of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), Amy Pope. He congratulated her for being the first woman to hold this position since the organization's establishment in 1951.

Shoukry stated that Egypt, which already hosts 9 million migrants and refugees, looked forward to easing its burden by enhancing cooperation with the organization.

For her part, Amy Pope acknowledged Egypt's crucial and central role in addressing migration issues.
