Egypt s president, Qatar s emir. Egy.Pres.Spokesman
The two leaders discussed the initiative during a phone call on Friday, according to a statement by Egyptian Presidential Spokesman Ahmed Fahmy.
The main objective of the initiative is to provide humanitarian relief to alleviate the impacts of the ongoing crisis in Sudan, especially for refugees.
Both countries will work together to develop frameworks and mechanisms for implementing the initiative, the spokesman added.
During their conversation, El-Sisi and Sheikh Tamim also discussed recent regional and international developments and explored ways to enhance Egyptian-Qatari relations across various sectors.
Egypt, located north of Sudan, has already received tens of thousands of Sudanese refugees and other individuals fleeing the conflict that erupted among military factions in mid-April.
Recent data from the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) indicates that approximately 170,000 people have sought refuge in Egypt, with an estimated arrival rate of over 5,000 individuals per day, making Egypt the largest host of Sudanese refugees.
Consequently, Egypt has appealed for support from the international community, as it was already hosting nine million refugees and migrants, from diffrent countries, prior to the latest influx from Sudan.
