Egypt unanimously elected as a member of FAO Council

The ministerial conference of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), which was held in Rome from 1- 7 July, unanimously elected Egypt to become a member of the organization’s council for the next three years until 2026.

According to Egypt’s ambassador to Italy and Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Rome Bassam Rady, Egypt was elected unanimously in recognition of its notable efforts in agriculture, food security, expansion of cultivated land, water management, and implementation of modern irrigation methods.

He further explained that the FAO Council is the most significant executive body within the organization, comprising countries with extensive expertise and a distinguished record in these areas.

The ambassador also noted that the council formulates, approves, and monitors the organization's policies and strategies related to food security –  a pressing issue of global concern.
