This came during a meeting between the two leaders in New Alamein on Monday to discuss the outcomes of the unity meeting of the Palestinian factions, which was hosted in Egypt on Sunday, in addition to ways to push forward the Middle East peace process, according to Egyptian Presidency spokesperson Ahmed Fahmy.
President Abbas thanked El-Sisi for hosting the meeting of the Palestinian factions in Egypt and for the country's historic support for the Palestinian cause, Fahmy said.
Abbas noted the factions' meeting presented an opportunity to discuss and exchange views on the best way to achieve national reconciliation, he added.
According to Fahmy, El-Sisi and Abbas discussed ways to coordinate positions and views on ways to resume the peace process to resolve the Palestinian-Israeli conflict in order to achieve comprehensive and just peace in the region that would be based on a two-state solution, with an independent and sovereign Palestinian state on the 4 June 1967 border and East Jerusalem as its capital, in line with relevant UN resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative.
The meeting was attended by Egypt's Foreign Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry, the head of the Egyptian General Intelligence Service Abbas Kamel and Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad al-Maliki.
