In Photos: President Sisi bestows Nile Sash on Indian leader of Bohra community

President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi has bestowed the Nile Sash on Sultan Mufaddal Saifuddin, the leader of the Bohra community, in appreciation for his ongoing support of cultural, charitable and social causes in Egypt.

This came during a meeting on Monday between the Egyptian president and the Bohra leader in Cairo, according to a statement by the Spokesman for the Egyptian Presidency Ahmed Fahmy.

Sultan Saifuddin was accompanied during the meeting by his sons Prince Ja’far El-Sadiq Imadduddin, Prince Taha Najmuddin, and Prince Husain Burhanuddin.

The meeting was also attended by the head of the General Intelligence Service, Abbas Kamel, and the representative of the Sultan in Cairo, Mufaddal Muhammad Hassan Ali.

The Dawoodi Bohras are a religious denomination within the Ismaili branch of Shia Islam with their largest numbers residing in India, Pakistan, Yemen, East Africa, and the Middle East.

During the meeting, President El-Sisi praised the historical ties between Egypt and the Bohra community, expressing his appreciation for Sultan Saifuddin's role in renovating historical shrines and mosques in Egypt and his various charitable activities in the country.

Sultan Saifuddin has contributed to the renovation and restoration of a number of historic mosques in Egypt, including the Al-Hussein, Al-Sayyeda Nafisa, and Al-Sayyeda Zeinab mosques.

Saifuddin also donated EGP 10 million to the Long Live Egypt (Tahya Misr) Fund between 2014 and 2018.

For his part, the Bohra leader expressed his appreciation for the role of President El-Sisi in promoting citizenship based on religious tolerance and coexistence.

He also commended the Egyptian president for promoting dialogue between peoples as part of the country's openness to all religions throughout its rich history.

Sultan Saifuddin also praised Egypt's active regional and international role and support for Islamic world causes.
