Egypt expresses condolences to South Africa for victims of building fire in Johannesburg

Egypt has extended its sincere condolences to South Africa for the victims of the building fire in Johannesburg city that resulted in dozens of victims, a statement by the official Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ahmed Abu Zeid said on Thursday.

The spokesman for the foreign ministry expressed Egypt's condolences to the relatives of the deceased and extended wishes for the injured to make a quick recovery.

Additionally, he emphasised Egypt's unwavering support for the South African government and people in this terrible catastrophe.

The fire took the lives of 73 people with an additional 52 injured, as reported by Agence France-Presse (AFP) on Thursday.

The fire, which started the previous evening, is one of the worst to have broken out globally in recent memory.

Firefighters are currently removing the dead, and the source of the fire is unknown.
