Shoukry briefed Blinken on ongoing Egyptian humanitarian assistance provided to the Libyan people and Egyptian workers in afflicted areas in Libya.

Egypt dispatched urgent humanitarian aid to Libya immediately after Daniel struck on Sunday.

President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi directed the Armed Forces to provide humanitarian aid, including relief teams, rescue equipment, and shelter camps, in cooperation and coordination with the Libyan authorities.

Egypt also set up camps in its western desert near the Libyan border to shelter victims.

Daniel destroyed whole towns and areas in eastern Libya, including large parts of Derna, and left thousands dead or missing and tens of thousands displaced.

Ending Sudan conflict

The two top diplomats also discussed recent developments in the conflict in Sudan.

Shoukry briefed Blinken on ongoing Egyptian efforts to resolve the five-month-old conflict in Sudan politically and also provide humanitarian assistance to the Sudanese people.

He also reviewed ongoing efforts by Sudan's neighbours to implement their roadmap for a peaceful resolution to the conflict there.

Egypt plans to invite the foreign ministers of Sudan's neighbouring countries to a meet on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York next week, Shoukry informed Blinken.

From his side, Blinken expressed his country's appreciation for Egypt's important role in promoting peace, security, and stability in the Middle East and Africa.

Both sides reaffirmed the importance of the strategic economic and political ties between the two countries, according to the statement.
