Shoukry made his remarks during a meeting with Eric van der Berg, the Dutch State Secretary for Migration, in the Egyptian capital Cairo.

Both officials discussed ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the field of migration, read a statement by the Egyptian foreign ministry.

The pair also discussed means of accelerating the implementation of a 2021 migration agreement between the two countries, which addresses all aspects of migration governance.

The deal tackles the root causes of illegal migration and facilitates labour mobility between both nations.

Egypt and the Netherlands seek to set a mode of cooperation in the migration field, the statement noted.

Egypt’s top diplomat highlighted the North African country’s efforts in combating irregular migration and human trafficking.

No irregular migration cases departed from Egyptian shores since 2016, Shoukry stressed.

He also spotlighted Egypt's efforts in hosting approximately 9 million refugees and migrants from various nationalities, ensuring equal access to basic services for them alongside Egyptian citizens.

The Dutch official welcomed Shoukry’s offer, voicing his country’s keenness to bolster cooperation with Egypt in the field of migration, according to the statement.

The Netherlands is committed to working with Egypt to combat illegal migration and address its underlying causes, he pointed out.
