Egypt's Coptic Orthodox Church denounces current events between Palestinians and Israelis

The Coptic Orthodox Church said it rejects and denounces the ongoing events between the Palestinian and Israeli sides, which resulted in hundreds of deaths and injuries, according to an official statement by the church on Sunday.

The church urged both sides to resort to dialogue and negotiation in order to save lives and avoid further bloodshed.
It also praised the Egyptian efforts to contain the situation and reach a political solution that protects the rights of the Palestinian people and achieves peace.
Battles between Palestinian fighters and Israeli forces raged for the second day following a surprise military operation by Hamas early Saturday.
The Israeli army struck several buildings in Gaza as rockets continued to be fired from the strip, with the total death toll reaching into the hundreds on both sides.
