Egyptian efforts are underway to facilitate a prisoner exchange deal between Israel and Hamas, following the surprise attack by Hamas on Saturday that resulted in the capture of a significant number of Israeli soldiers and settlers.

Informed sources have revealed to Ahram Online that Egyptian efforts are primarily focused on securing the release of Palestinian women and children prisoners held in Israeli custody in exchange for Hamas releasing Israeli "civilian women" who were taken captive during Operation Al-Aqsa Flood.

Israel reports that at least 100 Israelis were captured in the massive attack that caught them off guard on Saturday.

"The situation remains highly sensitive and complex, and the success of these efforts is uncertain," the sources emphasized.

"These efforts are part of a regional de-escalation initiative that has been ongoing for two consecutive days. However, the situation is far from smooth, as Israel continues its strikes on the Gaza Strip, and there are concerns that the situation may further deteriorate," the source added.

The Al-Qassam Brigades stated on Monday that four Israeli captives have already been killed in Israeli bombardment of Gaza

Currently, there are 39 Palestinian female prisoners detained in Israeli jails, according to the Palestinian Prisoners Club.
