Egypt’s President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi condemned in the “strongest terms” the Israeli “deliberate” bombing of Al-Ahli Baptist Hospital, calling for an immediate cessation of such practices against civilians.

El-Sisi stressed that such deliberate bombing represents a clear violation of international law and international humanitarian and legitimate principles.

“With deep sorrow, I observed the Israeli bombing of Al-Ahli Baptist Hospital on the evening of Tuesday, October 17, 2023, in the Gaza Strip, resulting in the tragic loss of hundreds of innocent victims, including wounded and injured Palestinian citizens in Gaza,” the president wrote on his official Facebook page on Tuesday.

He added that “Egypt, as a state and people, reaffirms its rejection of the continuation of such practices against civilians and demands an immediate halt of these actions”.

Israeli air strikes on the hospital compound killed at least 600 people.

The attack on the Baptist Hospital would be by far the deadliest Israeli airstrike in five wars fought since 2008.

The attack has garnered condemnation from most countries and international organizations.

Several hospitals in Gaza City have become refuges for hundreds of people, hoping they would be spared bombardment after Israel ordered all residents of the city and surrounding areas to evacuate to the southern Gaza Strip.
