In a phone call, Shoukry also discussed with Cleverly the efforts to release third-country nationals who were captured by Hamas on 7 October.
The phone call between Shoukry and Cleverly came following the announcement by the UK Foreign Secretary that the first group of British nationals stranded in Gaza left the strip through the Rafah border crossing with Egypt earlier Wednesday.
“We are working with Egyptian and Israeli authorities to ensure the crossing stays open so all British nationals can get to safety in the coming days,” Cleverly said on his social media accounts Wednesday evening.
Also on Wednesday, the first group of dual nationality individuals who were trapped in Gaza under Israeli bombardment was allowed to leave the strip through the crossing along with some critically injured Palestinians who would receive treatment in Egyptian hospitals in the North Sinai governorate.
Al-Jazeera TV channel reported that 80 wounded Palestinians and 400 foreign national holders would be transported via the crossing.
