Shoukry's remarks came in a joint press conference with Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman El-Safadi and US Secretary of State Blinken in Amman following their meeting with the Foreign Ministers of the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Qatar, as well as Palestinian officials concerning the situation in Gaza.
The Egyptian Foreign Minister also warned that there is an urgent need to resolve the situation before the conflict spreads to affect the security and stability of all peoples in the region, "dragging them into a dark tunnel".
“Israeli actions in Gaza cannot be justified as self-defence in any way,” Shoukry said in the press conference, reasserting Egypt’s strong rejection of all Israeli attempts to forcibly displace Palestinians.
“We reject attempts to liquidate the Palestinian issue at the expense of other countries,” he added.
The top Egyptian diplomat noted that Jordan likewise rejects any Israeli attempt to forcibly displace Palestinians from the West Bank into Jordan.
Shoukry also demanded an investigation into Israeli violations of international law and urged the international community to refrain from approaching such conflicts with double standards.
“While some rush to condemn the targeting of civilians as blatant violations of international humanitarian law, and demand ceasefires in other crises, we see a failure to commit to these same principles when it comes to the Palestinian issue," he said.
“It's as if the blood of Arabs is of lesser value than the blood of their fellow humans in other places.”
Shoukry added that the recent loss of civilian lives in Gaza, including relief workers and journalists, cannot be justified by any means.
The solution, said the minister, lies in an independent Palestinian state.
“I, once again call for swift action to revive the peace process in accordance with the two-state solution, aiming to end the Israeli occupation and establish a Palestinian state along the borders of June 4, 1967, with its capital in East Jerusalem,” Shoukry declared.
As for the near future of Gaza, he said it is too soon to make firm predictions.
During the press conference, US Secretary of State Blinken thanked Egypt and Jordan for their role in achieving regional stability. He also expressed US appreciation for Egyptian efforts to deliver aid to Gaza.
