This statement was made during a phone call with the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, in which they discussed the Israeli military escalation in Gaza.
According to the Egyptian presidency, El-Sisi stated that the international community has a political and moral responsibility to take serious and effective action to protect Palestinian civilians and halt Israel’s policy of collective punishment.
El-Sisi also reaffirmed that Egypt strongly rejects any attempts to resolve the Palestinian issue through the forced displacement of Palestinians from Gaza to Egypt.
Instead, he emphasized the importance of working towards de-escalation to create room for a political pathway leading to the two-state solution, which represents the only path to a just and lasting peace in the region.
During the call, they reviewed the ongoing efforts to deliver more humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza.
The president of the European Commission expressed her appreciation for Egypt's leading role in providing support to the people of Gaza during these challenging circumstances, as well as facilitating the exit of foreign nationals from the region.
