In a joint press conference, the ambassadors also called for the restoration of basic human necessities – food, water, fuel, and electricity – to the Palestinian population in Gaza.

The ambassadors pointed to the killing of more than 11,000 Palestinians, 75 percent of whom are women, children, or elderly, and the wounding of 26,000 more amid a collapse of medical services in the strip.

The statement also called for the release of all captives and political detainees.

The ambassadors urged the international community to take action to protect civilian facilities in accordance with the Geneva Conventions, especially UNRWA schools being used as emergency shelters for displaced civilians.

They also called for the end to the forcible transfer of Palestinians within or from Gaza, and for the protection of Palestinian lives as required by international law.

The statement pointed out that 45 percent of all housing in Gaza has been damaged, destroyed, or otherwise rendered uninhabitable.

The ambassadors urged Israel to grant immediate access to the relevant UN commission of inquiry.

Emphasizing the importance of addressing and eradicating the root causes of the current crisis, the statement called on the international community to act now.

“The sooner the international community takes action through the countless tools it has at its disposal, the faster bloodshed will end, lives and human suffering spared, and peace and coexistence prevail,” they said.
