Foreign ministers from members of the Arab League and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation countries including Egyptian Minister Sameh Shoukry, on Wednesday in London: Egyptian Foreign Ministry
This came during Shoukry’s meeting -- as part of an Arab-Islamic delegation -- with the UK’s Foreign Secretary David Cameron.
London was the final stop of the delegation’s tour of capitals of United Nations Security Council (UNSC) members that aimed at mustering support for ending the Israeli war on Gaza.
During the meeting, Shoukry urged sustained delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza free of Israeli obstacles, highlighting the severe humanitarian crisis there.
He also reiterated Egypt's rejection of any attempts to pressure Palestinians to leave the sector under the ongoing bombardment and siege.
He added that the targeting of civilians and the destruction of infrastructure in Gaza cannot be justified under the pretext of self-defence or combating terrorism.
For his part, the UK minister reviewed the UK's stance on the crisis.
He said his country insisted during its communications with Israel on the necessity of compliance with international law and humanitarian law and the entry of humanitarian aid into the strip.
He also affirmed the UK’s commitment to the two-state solution to settle the decade-old issue, calling for exploring the optimal approach to achieve this goal in the coming period.
The Arab-Islamic delegation consisted of foreign ministers of Egypt, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, and Jordan, alongside the Palestinian Authority and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation Secretary-General.
In the past 48 hours, the delegation visited China and Russia.
