In a phone call on Sunday, Shoukry called for the implementation of the latest UN Security Council (UNSC) resolution that calls for an extended truce and humanitarian corridors in the Gaza Strip to contain the deteriorating and unprecedented conditions endured by Palestinians.

The Israel-Hamas truce – mediated by Egypt, Qatar, and the US – entered its third day on Sunday, with both sides preparing for the third wave of agreed-upon prisoner releases.

Shoukry and Blinken agreed on the necessity of surmounting any obstacles to the fulfilment of the truce deal, read a statement by the Egyptian foreign ministry.

Blinken praised Egypt’s efforts to contain the Gaza crisis, which have seen more relief aid pour into the strip over the past two days and the release of a second batch of prisoners on Saturday.

Shoukry also briefed his counterpart on the tours made by the Arab-Islamic Ministerial Committee to the UNSC’s member states to push for a permanent end to the war.

He highlighted the crucial role that the UNSC's permanent members must play in putting an end to Israel's unprecedented violations of international law in its deliberate targeting of civilians.

The Egyptian foreign minister also discussed the draft resolution proposed by the Arab and Islamic groups before the UNSC to ensure the safe delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza.

The pair agreed on the importance of working together to restabilise the region and realise an enduring political resolution to the Palestinian issue based on the two-state solution, added the statement.
