Egypt, in a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Friday, strongly condemned the collapse of the Gaza ceasefire and the resumption of intense Israeli airstrikes and military operations.

“The resumption of intense Israeli airstrikes has led to renewed casualties among Palestinian civilians, marking a serious setback and a disregard by the Israeli side for all efforts made in recent days to extend the ceasefire, aiming to spare the blood of innocent Palestinians and secure the implementation of more urgent humanitarian aid for the Gaza population,” the statement said.

Once again, Egypt reiterated its warnings against the peril of expanding Israeli military operations in the southern Gaza Strip and denounced the Israeli officials' attempts to displace Palestinians beyond the borders of Gaza.

“Such actions constitute a blatant violation of Israel's commitments as the occupying power and of all provisions of international humanitarian law, especially the Fourth Geneva Convention of 1949,” the statement said.

It also reaffirmed Egypt’s steadfast rejection of forced displacement of Palestinians beyond their land, considering it a red line that will not be allowed to be crossed.

The Fourth Geneva Convention of 1949 stipulates that civilians in areas of armed conflict and occupied territories are protected by the 159 articles of the convention: “civilians must be permitted to lead normal lives and not to be deported or interned.”

Egypt also reiterated its call to influential international parties and relevant UN agencies, especially the Security Council, to fulfil their responsibilities in ensuring the protection of Palestinian civilians in Gaza, including the implementation of relevant UN resolutions.
