Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry
According to the Ministry Spokesperson Ambassador Ahmed Abu Zeid, Shoukry will also meet with heads and members of the US foreign policy committees in the US Congress, with the aim of advancing and strengthening the strategic relations between Egypt and the US.
Furthermore, the Egyptian foreign minister will address the Israeli war and its repercussions, both regionally and globally, during a meeting at the US Centre for Strategic and International Studies in DC. He will emphasize Egypt's pivotal role as a regional actor, highlighting its significance as a key mediator and a crucial access point for providing humanitarian aid to Gaza.
Shoukry will then join the Arab-Muslim ministerial delegation, set to visit DC Thursday, where they will meet with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, several Congress members, and the US media.
The delegation's visit comes in line with the final resolution passed at the Joint Arab-Islamic Extraordinary Summit in Riyadh. The delegation is empowered to spearhead international action to formulate an end to the war in Gaza and tackle the deteriorating humanitarian conditions in the besieged strip.
On Wednesday, Shoukry called on the United Nations Security Council to accept Palestine's membership in the United Nations General Assembly under its authority.
On the 60th day of the Israeli war on Gaza, Israeli forces increased airstrikes and ground attacks in the south of the densely populated Gaza strip including areas where Tel Aviv had told people to seek shelters, killing and wounding dozens of Palestinians.
The Palestinian death toll in Gaza now stands at 15,899, with 42,000 more wounded, according to the latest figures.
