Egypt expresses deepest condolences to China for devastating earthquake's victims

Egypt extended its heartfelt condolences to the friendly state and people of China in the wake of the destructive earthquake that struck the Gansu province in the northwest of the country, resulting in a large number of casualties and injuries, according to a statement by the foreign ministry on Tuesday.

Egypt reaffirms its full solidarity with the People's Republic of China in facing the destructive effects of this tragic incident. It offers condolences to the families of the victims, wishing also a speedy recovery to all the injured, the statement said

An overnight earthquake killed at least 118 people in a cold and mountainous region in northwestern China, provincial officials said Tuesday, in the nation's deadliest quake in 10 years.

The 6.2 magnitude earthquake left more than 500 people injured, severely damaged houses and roads, and knocked out power and communication lines, provincial officials and media reports stated.

Emergency authorities in Gansu province issued an appeal for 300 additional workers to comb through collapsed buildings and for other search and rescue operations. Officials in neighbouring Qinghai reported 20 people missing in a landslide, according to Chinese state-owned media.
